How does it work?

Claim

Juru allows you to set your own attributes, like your first name, last name, e-mail address… You could also define data that says something about your education, your health report or even your online avatar.

This is what we call “Claims”. We provide a template to get you started, but the possibilities are endless. As you use your identity, it will become more enriched, and over time provide you with a vault of personal data. You can change your attributes as you see fit. All changes will record a proof of change on the blockchain, so you can always be sure your data is untampered with, and you can share with confidence.

Proof

You can claim to be you, but not many people will believe you without proof. Juru allows you to connect proof to your claims.

If you claim you graduated from MIT, we allow you to upload your diploma. The Juru blockchain records the unique identifier of this proof. If you ever want to share your proof in the future, you can use the blockchain to show the data is authentic.

We also allow services to provide proof for you. The government could issue your driver's license directly to your account, providing a document that’s stored in your own personal vault.

Attestation

If you want your claims to be verified, you can share your claim and proof with an independant service, allowing them to cross-reference your data, and issue an attestation.

If, for example, I’d claim my name is John Doe, I can upload a copy of my passport and ask the local town hall or my bank to provide an attestation to my name. Each industry it’s own attestation providers, and the more attestations you acquire over time, the more solid my claim.

If my telecom provider attests my mobile number is indeed assigned to me, I can rest assured that this claim is true.

Sharing

You’ve build your identity by using claim-proof-attestation, so it’s rock solid. So what?

Juru allows you to provide access to your attributes for online services. You could share your e-mail address to receive a newsletter, share your delivery address with a webshop, or even share your medical data with your dentist. Because you are the one sharing your data, it’s always up-to-date: if you move to a new location, all your packages will be sent to the right address. You can always revoke access if you no longer want a certain party to use your data. You can move from one marketplace to another, and take your seller history with you.

Juru gives you full data portability.

Tokenization

Sharing your data attribute by attribute is a very lean way to control what others know about you. everything is shared on a need-to-know basis.

With Juru we like to take it one step further: You don’t have to share your date of birth to prove you’re old enough to enter a festival. If your date of birth is attested to by a trusted partner, we allow you to create a token: +18 for example.

You can just share this token with a service, without sharing your exact age. Any attribute can be tokenized: age, place of birth, income, … Maybe I don’t want a dating site to know my name, age, address and marital status. But I might be willing to share i’m over 18, under 40, and live close to Brussels. This allows you even more control of your privacy.

Mandates

Juru allows you to build a network of identities.

A Juru ID can represent a person, but can also represent a legal entity or an object. When you’re managing your own identity in Juru, you can create new identities for companies and things you own. Juru gives you full control of this new identity, so you can manage the attributes, proof and attestations in the exact same way as your own. We even allow you to create identities for people, for example to create an online identity for your newborn baby. When new person logs in to his own identity wallet, your mandate is automatically broken and the new identity becomes self-sovereign, just like yours.

Using this powerful model, we can give your smart refrigerator an identity, that you can control. You can allow the refrigerator to access your calendar data, so it can see you’ve got a 20-people party coming up this weekend. You can let it use your online account for grocery shopping, and even let it ask about allergies with your invitees, so you end up with a perfectly stocked fridge without lifting a finger, all while remaining in full control.

Blockchain

Juru puts an emphasis on security, authenticity and ease of use.

This is why we put a lot of effort in developing a platform that is bulletproof from the second you log in. All data is stored securely in a distributed, append-only database. This allows us to record changes at light-speed, while making sure all data in the platform is authentic. The nodes that contribute to this database are hosted by the partners in our non-profit organisation. We record proof and timestamps of all transactions on the platform (changes to attributes, attestations, proof and sharing) in our blockchain.

This allows you to prove beyond reasonable doubt that a certain action has been taken: If you revoked access to your email address for a certain online service, you have proof that they should no longer be sending you emails on that address. For us, It’s all about putting you in charge of your data.
